What app helps you split up a group project?
Verified on: October 27, 2026
tudy’s team projects answer the question “who’s doing what?”: you create the project, send a link to your group chat, everyone joins and you split the tasks on a board that updates live. Up to 25 people fit in a project, and it’s free.
How to create one and invite people
- Under Teams, create a project with a name, description and due date.
- Tap Invite at the top of the board.
- Send the group link, or look someone up by username (the app suggests names as you type and shows your friends in one tap).
Someone who gets the link and has no account sees who invited them and the project name, signs up and lands right inside the group, with nothing to search for. Someone with an account accepts and joins. It works the same whether they sign up with email or Google.
The link belongs to the group and can be used by several people. It lasts 7 days and renews itself when someone opens the panel near expiration. If it ends up in the wrong hands, the owner can reset it and the old links stop working immediately.
The live task board
The board has the columns To Do, In Progress and Done. Each task can have:
- an assignee, shown as an avatar on the row;
- a due date;
- a difficulty;
- a description.
At the top there’s a progress bar for the project and filters: All, Mine, Unassigned or by person. The board is real-time: when a teammate moves a card, you see it without reloading. Below it, recent activity (“Sam completed…”, “Sam took…”) settles the argument about who did what.
The project list shows progress, avatars, the due date and how many tasks are yours.
Who can do what
- Any member can invite (by username or with the link).
- Only the owner can remove people and reset the link.
- Someone the owner removed can’t come back through the link, only through a username invite.
- Someone who left on their own can rejoin through the link.
- The owner can edit the description and due date.
What’s free and what’s Pro
| Free | Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Create a team project | yes | yes |
| Up to 25 people, live board, activity | yes | yes |
| Invite by link and by username | yes | yes |
There’s no team feature that’s exclusive to Pro. Pro is $3.99 a month or $29.99 a year, paid by card.
What team projects don’t do
- They don’t have drag and drop on the board yet. Cards change columns with arrow buttons, not by dragging. (Drag and drop does exist in the Kanban mode of Deadlines on a computer, but that’s a different screen.)
- They don’t give XP for board tasks. Your personal tasks still do.
- They don’t notify you by push or email when you’re invited. Right now the invite shows up as a badge in the Teams area.
- They can’t transfer ownership to someone else.
- They aren’t a chat. The board organizes who does what; the conversation stays in your group chat.
On your phone
Because tudy opens in the browser, a link from your group chat works right on your phone. One heads-up: signing in with Google inside Instagram’s built-in browser is often blocked by Google itself. A link opened from a messaging app doesn’t have that problem. To use tudy like an app, see how to add it to your home screen.
Alongside everything else
Board tasks that have a due date also show up in the Calendar, marked as team tasks. Your personal tasks stay in Tasks, separate from the group’s.
Frequently asked questions
How do I invite my group?
With the Invite button on the board: send the group link (in your group chat, say) or invite by username. Someone who opens the link without an account sees who invited them, signs up and lands right in the project.
How many people fit in a team project?
Up to 25 people per project.
Are team projects free?
Yes. Team projects are available on the Free plan.
How long does the group link last?
The group link lasts 7 days and renews itself when someone opens the Invite panel close to expiration. If it leaks, the owner can create a new one and the old one stops working immediately.
