How do XP and the study leaderboard work in tudy?
Verified on: October 27, 2026
In tudy, studying earns XP: 5 for each completed task, 5 for a flashcard round and 1 for every 2 minutes of timer focus. XP feeds a leaderboard with three tabs (Week, Friends and All-time). XP and the leaderboard are free, and the math runs on the server.
What each action is worth
| Action | XP |
|---|---|
| Task completed | 5 |
| Subtask completed | 5 |
| Flashcard round with 3 cards or more | 5 |
| Timer focus | 1 per 2 full minutes |
| 7-day streak milestone | 70 (one-time bonus) |
| 30-day milestone | 100 |
| 100-day milestone | 150 |
Manual time (logged in Manage time) keeps your streak alive but earns no XP. Only the real timer produces XP.
The limits, and why they exist
If anyone could check off a hundred tasks in a minute, the leaderboard would mean nothing. So there are guardrails:
- Tasks and subtasks: up to 160 XP a day, and at most 10 completions with XP every 10 minutes.
- Flashcards: up to 15 XP a day (3 rounds).
- Focus: up to 240 XP a day, and only the first 3 hours of each session pay out. Focus XP never runs faster than the clock.
Past a limit, the action still counts toward your streak, it just doesn’t add XP. Unchecking a task gives the XP back. Deleting an item doesn’t take away XP you already earned. Because everything is calculated in the database, fiddling with your browser doesn’t change your XP.
The leaderboard
The leaderboard has three tabs:
- Week: XP from Monday to Sunday. It shows the top 10, and when the week turns over, everyone restarts from zero. If you haven’t scored yet this week, you don’t have a rank, and the screen invites you into the race.
- Friends: you and your friends side by side, with this week’s XP and your totals.
- All-time: the hall of fame, with XP accumulated since each person joined. It shows the top 20.
If you’re outside the top, you see the people right around you. Small arrows show who moved up or down in the last 2 hours. Only accounts with a username set appear on the leaderboard. Ties go to the older account.
Your race
The “Your race” card turns the gap to the person above you into something concrete: “4 XP to pass Maya. That’s one task.” Instead of an abstract number, you see how many tasks or timer minutes stand between you and the next spot.
Friends
To add a friend, use their username or a QR code. The Friends tab works like a private leaderboard: competing with a classmate is a different game than competing with strangers.

What XP and the leaderboard don’t do
- XP doesn’t buy anything. It’s a score, not a currency.
- There’s no leaderboard by class, school or college. It’s global, friends or weekly.
- Manual time and tasks on a team project board don’t earn XP.
- It isn’t proof you learned. It measures what you log in the app. Actually studying is still on you.

Frequently asked questions
How much XP is each action worth in tudy?
A completed task, a completed subtask and a flashcard round (3 cards or more) are worth 5 XP each. Timer focus is worth 1 XP per 2 full minutes. Streak milestones at 7, 30 and 100 days give 70, 100 and 150 XP.
Does the leaderboard reset every week?
The Week tab restarts every Monday, with the race running Monday to Sunday. The Friends and All-time views also show total XP.
Can you cheat the XP?
It's hard. XP is calculated on the server, with daily caps and a pace limit. Unchecking a task gives the XP back, so checking and unchecking earns nothing.
Are XP and the leaderboard only for paying users?
No. XP, the leaderboard and friends are free. Pro only adds a PRO badge next to your name.
